Uneven Cooling In Your Home
In Bucks County, most people rely on air conditioning to control the heat and humidity in their home during the summer months. This time of year, air conditioners can be running for hours and the hope is that this use of energy and cost translates into a perfect living environment in your home.
However, many don’t have this experience. For example, some rooms in your home might be less cool than the others, or vice versa.
If this is happening in your home, it could be a symptom of an improper install or an issue with your air conditioning unit that will likely get worse with time.
Air Filters
Checking your air filters should be the first step when dealing with any cooling issues. If your filters are covered in dirt, dust and grime, your system will not get enough air to cool and push through your system, and your efficiency will suffer. Changing your filters can restore even cooling throughout your home.
Leaks
A refrigerant leak is a serious problem and can contribute to uneven temperatures throughout your home. Humidity along with uneven cooling is a tell-tale sign that your refrigerant charge is low. If you are experiencing either of these symptoms after checking your filters, have your system checked immediately.
Duct Leaks
Ducts move cool air behind the walls of your home. If these ducts fail, cool air will not make it to the register and that room will not cool. If you are feeling reduced airflow, suspect there is an issue with your duct/s and call a professional.
Short Cycling
Short cycling is an issue with many causes. In short, the compressor turns on and then off repeatedly and without enough time to effectively cool your house down. Short cycling is a symptom of a bigger problem and left unresolved, can severely tax the components of your HVAC system.
End of Life
If your cooling unit is 10-12 years old and up, it might be time to replace it. One of the first symptoms that your unit is failing and at the end of its life is uneven cooling. If you suspect this is the case, call a professional.
