Know the Signs of a Gas Leak
Gas leaks are fairly uncommon but they do happen. If you notice any of these signs, leave your home or area and contact McMackin Mechanical immediately.
- A rotten-egg smell – Commercially available gas has a harmless chemical compound added to it in order to make leaks easier to detect.
- Hissing / blowing sounds – An obvious sign of a gas leak.
- Blowing dirt – If while walking around outside or while digging you see dirt moving or spiraling around, you may have an underground gas leak.
- Dead or sick looking vegetation – a gas leak will essentially poison vegetation such as flowers and shrubs. If your landscaping is suffering suddenly, it may be a sign that there is an underground gas leak.
Additional precautions to take include evacuating your home, not touching any electrical components or lighting a match and calling a utility company. You may also want to inform your neighbors.
